All's well that ends well

Gordon Elliott, who has enjoyed a sensational November, sending out 32 winners, has five runners at Punchestown including Woods Well who made a winning debut over fences at Fairyhouse two weeks ago.

Woods Well takes on four rivals in the Betdaq Rated Novice Chase (2.25) and Elliott said yesterday: "Woods Well did the job well at Fairyhouse. He came out of the race fine and is a good jumper who handles testing conditions well.

"This looked a good opportunity for him and he's going there in good form."

Woods Well's rivals include dual chase winner The West's Awake, trained by Edward O'Grady, and the Mouse Morris-trained four-year-old Tout Est Permis who is has won once from three starts over fences.

Papa can come of age now chasing

Bon Papa, winner of a bumper and a maiden hurdle last season, has always been regarded as a chaser in the making and the JP McManus-owned six-year-old starts off over fences in the 2m beginners chase (1.50).

Mullins said yesterday: "Bon Papa is a big, strong chasing type. He jumps well, seems in good form and we're looking forward to giving him his first run over fences."

Only two of Bon Papa's six rivals – the Henry de Bromhead-trained Avenir D'Une Vie and Scoir Mear, trained by Tom Mullins – have run over fences.

Queeny and Doyle make a royal partnership

Queeny and 5lb claimer Ricky Doyle have struck up a good relationship, winning three handicap hurdles together, the most recent of them at Fairyhouse two weeks ago.

The six-year-old's trainer Ronnie O'Leary is looking forward to another big run from the mare in today's 2m6f handicap (1.20).

"I was a bit worried going to Fairyhouse that the ground might be too testing for her but she got through it quite well. Hopefully, she'll do the same tomorrow. She goes well for Ricky who gets a good tune out of her," O'Leary said yesterday.

De Bromhead excited by Blue

Paloma Blue, a smart performer in bumpers last season, drops three furlongs in trip from his hurdling debut at Naas 18 days ago when he finished third in the 2m3f maiden won impressively by Next Destination.

He faces 21 rivals in today's opener (12.20) and Henry de Bromhead, trainer of Davy Russell's mount, said: "Paloma Blue ran a good race at Naas. We've been happy with him since and are hoping for a good run."
