From the QEII to the Lockinge, Queen Anne and now Wednesday's Qatar Sussex Stakes (3.35), the best of right now has trodden the path once taken by the horse who may have been the best of all time. He is not, however, a tribute act, nor is he pretending to be something he is not. It is what he is that makes Baaeed so special.
The world's highest-rated thoroughbred has raced eight times and won eight times. Every one of his races has been over a mile. Should all go well in Glorious Goodwood's most prestigious prize, and should he continue to emulate Frankel, this will be the last time we see him over the distance at which he has proved untouchable.
