Five fascinating runners to note at Cork and Roscommon tonight
There is plenty of prize money on offer in Ireland on Tuesday evening, with a host of star names due to appear both at Cork, which gets under way at 5.30, and Roscommon, where action begins just ten minutes later. Here, our chief Irish correspondent picks out five of the most intriguing runners.
The Dermot Weld-trained filly Eziyra brings Classic form to the table in the Group 3 feature at Cork (7.30), having produced her best performance when third behind Enable and Rain Goddess in the Irish Oaks last month, and she is on the verge of a second Group 3 win.
The daughter of Teofilo won the Park Stakes as a two-year-old and will be attempting to give her trainer a fourth win in the race in the space of six years.
Weld said: “Eziyra is well and I’ve been very pleased with her since her excellent run in the Irish Oaks. I’m expecting a very good run.”
Twice successful at Listed level at the track, he won this race in 2014 and finished third a year ago.
Gary Carroll, who has twice ridden him to success this year, is again on board and he said: “Brendan Brackan is a very straightforward horse. He’s shown he likes the track and some juice in the ground, which hopefully he'll get. He should run his usual good race."
Successful in a 1m6f maiden at Killarney last month on her second start, She's So Flawless will be making her handicap debut at Roscommon (7.40) with Chris Hayes on board.
Her six rivals include three other last-time-out winners – Hamley, who is on a hat-trick, Jeremy’s Girl and Byron Beauty.
Willie Mullins said of the daughter of Fastnet Rock: “She’s So Flawless was a slow learner but she’s getting the hang of things. We think she's an improving filly and while she's dropping down a couple of furlongs in trip, that shouldn’t be a problem.
Aidan O’Brien has several talented juvenile fillies this season and Magical will be out to advertise claims for bigger events later in the year when she makes her second appearance against nine rivals in the opener at Cork (5.30).
A sister to dual Group 1 winner and 1,000 Guineas and Oaks runner-up Rhododendron, Magical shaped well on her debut at the Curragh last month when finishing second over six furlongs.
She missed an engagement at Goodwood last Thursday due to the ground conditions and her trainer said: “Magical is in good form.
"We were very happy with her first run and hopefully she'll improve. She’s going up in trip and we think and hope the mile will suit her."is on a hat-trick and will be attempting to follow up her win at Galway over two furlongs further in the penultimate race at Roscommon (8.10).
The Harry Rogers-trained four-year-old carries a 6lb penalty and will again have the assistance of 7lb claimer Sean Davis, who rode her to victory five days ago.
Rogers said: “Remarkable Lady came out of her Galway race well, Sean knows her well and his claim will help. She’s going back up in distance but there are no worries on that score as she's won over the trip. We’re hoping for another big run."Read exclusive previews from 6pm tonight on racingpost.com
