Fireworks forecast as top speedsters clash

Sprint king Robert Cowell reckons there will be "fireworks" on the Rowley Mile in the most competitive edition of this speed feature that he and many locals can remember.

Cowell, who won it two years ago with Goldream, one of two runners he fields here, said: "The public are in for a real treat this year with plenty of speed in the race and I reckon there will be fireworks.

"On paper it looks like a mini King's Stand and as it's fast ground I could see the track record under threat, no doubt about it."

As well as Goldream, the other previous winner of the race is last year's scorer Profitable, who will have different colours this year as he was bought by Godolphin over the winter.

One of two runners for Clive Cox, Profitable, receives a handy 4lb from Marsha, who is penaiised 7lb for winning last year's Prix de l'Abbaye.

Alpha Delphini is a half-brother to Tangerine Trees, winner of this in 2011.

She faces a tough task under a 7lb penalty, but it was either come here or go to Germany for a Group 1 over six furlongs and this is more her trip. These sprinters take it in turns and last year it was our turn in Paris. She'll go the usual route, Temple Stakes and then the King's Stand.

He'll improve for the race but he's been in good form at home. I've won this race twice before and hopefully we can again, but it looks a tough renewal.

He's in great order and this is the next logical step after his win on all-weather championships day. It's competitive as they've all turned up, but the trip and fast ground should suit him.

He had a quiet year last year and came back and won at Bath. It was nice for him to get his head in front, he likes the faster ground and hopefully can run a good race.

I've been very happy with Profitable and he's been training very well through the spring. He won this race last year before going on to score in the Temple Stakes and at Royal Ascot, and we've given him a similar preparation this season. Priceless is also going into this in good shape and should run a nice race.

He has a very sporting owner who has decided to give this a go rather than run at York. He should run respectably if they haven't over-watered.

It's her first run of the season. I don't think dropping back in trip to five furlongs will necessarily be a problem given her running style. But she will definitely come on for the run. She got better with racing last year and I expect the same to be true this year.
