Top trolling, Ireland. If Ontheropes isn't a metaphor for the state of British jump racing right now then I don't know what is. And, just for good measure, Eklat De Rire when translated into English apparently means a burst of laughter. You couldn't make this stuff up.

Seven days after A Plus Tard became the first Irish-trained winner of the Betfair Chase, Ireland are now after another big jumps race that Britain has done a damn good job of keeping at home.

The Irish didn't get drunk on too many Hennessys over the years with only the immortal Arkle (1964, 1965) and Bright Highway (1980) winning it during the 60-year stint of the longest-running commercial sponsorship in British racing. It became the Ladbrokes Trophy in 2017, the year Total Recall ended a lengthy Irish drought, but there has been nothing since.
