Why is it interesting?

Traditionally known as the Brighton Challenge Cup, this feature can lay claim to having one of the biggest silver cups in racing, with the trophy dating back to the 1850s.

There is a distinctive jumping flavour to the race with plenty of dual-purpose trainers involved, as well as jumpers trying their hand on the Flat, with Black Kalanisi, Ravenous, Zoffany Bay and Fields Of Fortune boasting some smart form over hurdles.

Sir Mark Prescott has saddled nine winners from his last 27 runners and he puts blinkers on Final Rock.

What the stats say

Three-year-olds have come good in this feature recently with three of the last four coming from the Classic generation.

Two of those, Curlew River and Mister Rockandroll, were trained by Mark Johnston, who has a strong record at Brighton. He has hat-trick-seeking Mister Chiang, who is owned by The Originals, who also owned Mister Rockandroll.

Alan King, who runs Fields Of Fortune at the bottom of the handicap, won the race three years ago with one of the top weights William Hunter.

Agent Basterfield, another of the three-year-olds, won over the course and distance on his only other visit to the seaside track.

Three others have course form with King Of The Sands having won twice from three runs at the track while Overhaugh Street and Zoffany Bay have enjoyed one win from two visits.

What they say

Peter Hedger, trainer of C'Est No Mour
I hope there will be a bit of pace in the race with 12 runners as he's been caught out by a slow pace in recent races. He's been freshened up since his last run and has won round Epsom so hopefully he'll handle the track. He has every chance.

Gary Moore, trainer of King Of The Sand
He was disappointing at Epsom last time and will need some rain to run.

Joseph Tuite, trainer of Black Kalanisi
He has improved with every run on the Flat and is in good heart. If he handles Brighton I'm hopeful of a good run.

Luke Dace, trainer of Ravenous
He's in great form and is always frustrating in the early part of the season but he suddenly comes good in August and September each year, so I hope that's the case again.

Ali Stronge, trainer of Zoffany Bay
He's just come back from a break and Silvestre de Sousa won on him over course and distance last August.

Ed de Giles, trainer of Overhaugh Street
He likes quirky tracks, having won at Chester, Brighton and Goodwood. It's competitive enough but there's great prize-money and he's in cracking form.
