If Owen Burrows had looked into a crystal ball at what the season would bring, he might have thought it was an illusion. A breakthrough Group 1 success and five winners from 12 runners at Group level is a handsome return, especially considering the position Burrows found himself in.

As private trainer to Hamdan Al Maktoum, he had seen his numbers dwindle following the high-profile owner's death in March 2021 and moved to a smaller yard in Lambourn as a consequence of Shadwell's downsizing.

But while his raw materials have diminished, his own stock has risen considerably this year, in large part due to Hukum's Coronation Cup success in June.
