Eric McNamara three-handed as he tries to deliver local win in Munster National
JT McNamara Ladbrokes Munster National Handicap Chase (Grade A) |4yo+ | 3m | RTV
Trainer Eric McNamara is three-handed with Internal Transfer, Black Scorpion and Gwencily Berbas as he attempts to land this valuable prize at his local track.
Black Scorpion finished third in this race a year ago while Internal Transfer, fourth in the Kerry National last month, is the mount of Robbie Power, who won the race on Colca Canyon for Jessica Harrington 15 years ago.
Elliott runs three
Tiger Roll gave Gordon Elliott his only success in the race in 2016 and Elliott, a specialist in these sorts of races, fires three bullets at this year's renewal with the hat-trick seeking The Big Lense being joined by Nambour and Timiyan.
Brouder's big chance
Snugsborough Benny, third in the Galway Plate on his most recent start, heads the weights with 5lb claimer Kevin Brouder deputising for the injured Denis O'Regan on the Liam Cusack-trained nine-year-old.
2018 cast returns
Spider Web, who will attempt back-to-back wins in the race, is reopposed by Midlands National winner and Kerry National third Na Trachtalai Abu, Black Scorpion and Full Cry, who completed the first four placings behind him a year ago.
Spider Web's trainer Tom Mullins is also represented by Oscar Knight, who was sixth in the Kerry National last month.
JP McManus, owner of Spider Web and Oscar Knight, is also represented by Movewiththetimes, a disappointing favourite in the Kerry National last month, Drumcliff, The Big Lense and Timiyan.
What they say
Eric McNamara, trainer of Internal Transfer, Black Scorpion and Gwencily Berbas
Internal Transfer ran very well in the Kerry National and, with that run under his belt, we're expecting a big run. He's three from three over the course and that should be a big plus. Black Scorpion was very keen when third in the race a year ago. He's fitter than when he ran at Listowel last month and going back up in trip will suit. Gwencily Berbas has worked exceptionally well since his run at Listowel and has more than an outside chance.
Enda Bolger, trainer of Movewiththetimes
He was disappointing in the Kerry National and we think the ground might have been too slow for him there. He came out of the race well and, hopefully, the ground will dry out
James Motherway, trainer of Na Trachtalai Abu
The ground is my main concern. We certainly don't want more rain. If it dries, then it will definitely help his chance. He was second in the race a year ago and third in the Kerry National last time and is in good form.
Gordon Elliott, trainer of The Big Lense, Nambour and Timiyan
The Big Lense is in good form but he's going up in trip and his recent winning form has been on good ground. Nambour was going well when he fell at Navan last time and has an each-way chance. Timiyan has plenty of experience and, hopefully, his confidence won't be dented by being brought down at Navan last time.
