Don't miss the race with an excellent record of producing future stars

The EBF Final, rescheduled for Kempton on Saturday after Sandown's meeting last weekend was lost to the weather, is a race which is a bona fide breeding ground for stars and well worth watching with an eye on the future. Here we pick out five of the best horses the race has produced

Many Clouds

The 2013 EBF Final was a royal affair. The Queen's Close Touch, who had only been beaten once beforehand, coasted through the mud to leave the future fan favourite trailing in his wake.

Shouldered with top weight after winning a two races over hurdles that season, Many Clouds was always prominent and stayed on dourly in the closing stages to hold off Edmund Kean for second, with subsequent Coral Cup hero and dual Grade 1 winner Whisper in fourth.

Many Clouds would go on to have an ambitious and decorated career, winning a Hennessy, two Cotswold Chases and the 2015 Grand National before his sad death in 2017.

Albertas Run

Like Many Clouds, Albertas Run was owned by Trevor Hemmings and had promised a great deal prior to running in the 2007 EBF Final.

Sent off at 6-1, he delivered in style under Sir Anthony McCoy, travelling smoothly and picking up strongly to win by four lengths.

Later that season he would win a Listed handicap hurdle at the Grand National meeting, although it was over fences where his sparkling future would lie.

Albertas Run was ultra-reliable at the top level and electric at both Cheltenham and Aintree, winning two Ryanair Chases at the festival, a Melling Chase and an Old Roan Chase.

Dynaste

The ex-French gelding was sent off the 6-1 favourite for the 2011 running of the EBF Final after winning his first race in Britain at Taunton.

The exuberant grey made all of the running under Conor O'Farrell but weakened at the second last hurdle, eventually finishing sixth to Skint.

He returned with a bang the following season, storming home in the Fixed Brush Hurdle at Haydock before taking on Big Buck's in Grade 1s at Ascot and Cheltenham.

He would go on to win the Kauto Star at Kempton as a novice before enjoying his finest hour in the 2014 Ryanair.

Beshabar

One of the reasons the EBF Final is such a good race to follow is because it consistently produces excellent staying chasers, and Beshabar looked to have a bright future when collecting the race in 2008 on his final start for Nick Williams.

The imposing chestnut was an easy winner under Daryl Jacob, stretching nearly four lengths clear to beat Sovereign King.

His career was blighted by injury thereafter and he only had eight more starts, but such was his talent he managed to finish second in a National Hunt Chase and win a Scottish Grand National.

Potters Corner

One of the more recent graduates from the Sandown Grade 3 has been Potters Corner, who was sixth to Barney Dwan in 2016.

The son of Indian Danehill had mixed results in the following seasons but really hit full stride last year for Christian Williams, staying on best to win the Midlands Grand National.

This season things have ascended even further as he provided connections with an emotional local win in the Welsh Grand National at Chepstow, with the team now setting their sights on Aintree.
