Does Ravenous have the hunger? A round-up of what to look out for

Ravenous is hungry for a repeat victory, or at least that is what his trainer Luke Dace believes.

The six-year-old, who was bred by the Prince Of Wales and the Duchess Of Cornwall, won the £35,000 Close Brothers Colwick Cup (4.10) 12 months ago and is only 1lb higher in the handicap for his return visit to Nottingham on Friday.

"This has been the goal from the start of the year and I'm expecting a big run," said Dace, who is based in West Sussex.

"I couldn't have him in better form than he is now, he's come to himself and he's in really good nick.

"He ran a good race last time at Ascot where the ground was too soft for him and my one concern would be if they got too much rain – good to firm ground would be fine and good would be perfect."

Professional performance expected

Chelsea Thoroughbreds pays its latest tribute to 1970s television with the Newbury debut of Bodie And Doyle, named after the lead characters of crime drama series 'The Professionals'.

Among their other two-year-olds are Arthur Daley, Jack Regan and Jim Rockford and managing director James Ramdsen explained: "We started looking for real people for names but that can be complicated so I started looking at various TV shows and sitcoms.

"I'm in my early 40s but most of our members know these characters and when it comes to our virtual yearling parade lunch people can pick a horse because they like the look of it, its pedigree or its trainer but some might be swayed because they are a more a fan of the Rockford Files than The Sweeney!"

Bodie And Doyle, who is trained by Andrew Balding, starts off in the second division of the 7f maiden (2.10) and Ramsden said: "He will probably come on for the experience but we've had a lot of success with Andrew with Ian Fleming and Max Zorin so we're hoping that he's in the same mould as those two. We're hoping he can put in a nice show."

Galway duo trying for better at Tramore

Bentelimar and Marinero, both of whom unseated their rider in the Galway Plate, line up with connections hoping for better in a six runner conditions chase at Tramore (5.05).

Third over hurdles at Cork following his Galway exit, Marinero has won over hurdles at today's trip and achieved his only win over fences when scoring over 2m7f at Downpatrick almost a year ago.

His trainer Henry de Bromhead said yesterday: "He ran a nice race at Cork. We thought it was a suitable race to run him in after what happened at Galway. He's been in good form since and we're hoping for a good run."

Bentelimar represents Shay Barry who said: "He came out of Galway well and this looked a nice race to go for. A six runner field should help him in terms of confidence and the conditions of the race suit him quite well. Yielding ground will suit."

Gigginstown House Stud, owners of Marinero, also run Potters Point who has run of a sequence of placed efforts over different distances since achieving his only chase win at Fairyhouse in April.

His trainer Gordon Elliott said: "Potters Point has been consistent without winning. We know he gets the trip as he was only touched off over the distance at Killarney last month. He's quite well in at the weights and we're hoping he might come out on top this time."

Newsworthy, Static Jack, and Master Appeal complete the field.

Mandarin makes second debut

Mandarin Princess, one of two horses at the centre of a fiasco at Yarmouth, gets a second chance to make her debut on Friday in Newmarket’s 7f novice auction stakes (5.20).

Having appeared to have made a winning start to her career in a similar race at Yarmouth, it was later discovered the 50-1 winner was not Mandarin Princess but in fact her year-older stablemate Millie’s Kiss, who was due to contest a later race on the card.

The embarrassing episode subsequently cost McBride a £1,500 fine at a BHA inquiry, with 'Mandarin Princess' stripped of the race.
She is set to face nine rivals on Friday, including stablemate Ruby’s Gem.
