Dettori stays away from the action before teaming up with Enable

Frankie Dettori did not take unnecessary risks on the eve of one his biggest rides of the season, with the big-race jockey of the moment choosing to take the day off before Saturday's date with destiny aboard Enable.

Picking and choosing his rides has been part of Dettori's hugely successful 2019, with the Italian bagging eight Group 1 winners already this year, the most recent of which came last weekend when Star Catcher claimed the Irish Oaks for Enable's trainer John Gosden.

In Britain, Dettori has had only 144 rides this year, riding 40 winners at a 28 per cent strike-rate. Although the 48-year-old's boundless energy shows no signs of diminishing he has been minded to cherry pick mounts and save himself for the biggest occasions.
