Derby-winning jockey Martin Dwyer and top commentator Simon Holt join the panel
What do you look for in a Derby winner and who is your fancy this year?
Alan Reilly, BoyleSports head of racing The four main attributes required are pedigree, stamina potential, track adaptability and form in any creditable trial. The difficulty in backing a Ballydoyle horse when they have entered so many is figuring out who's running on individual merit and who's there for tactical reasons and to make the pace. I like Bangkok each-way. Although his trial is not so fashionable nowadays, he won it decisively and the son of Australia is very progressive. His stable are flying and if you subscribe to the draw factor then he is well positioned in 12.
Pietro Innocenzi, Racing Post tipster I rarely bet ante-post but backed Japan a few weeks ago after I heard Ballydoyle expected him to be their number one. His Dante performance suggested they were miles off, although there's still plenty of time for him to come right. If I was having another bet it would be Madhmoon, whom connections raved about last year. He appeared ready for this stiffer test of stamina in the 2,000 Guineas.
Martin Dwyer, jockey Horses don't necessarily transfer their two-year-old form into their three-year-old season, so I like to see a horse have proven form in one of the trials and from the trials the horse who impressed me most was Anthony Van Dyck. I thought he looked big at Lingfield and would surely come on for the race but he still won with his ears pricked. He would be my selection, although I also like Bangkok. Sir Dragonet has to prove he can be as good as he was at Chester on quick ground and Telecaster has to cope with a quick turnaround from York.
