Golden Horn, Intello and Kew Gardens are three Classic-winning future sires to have emerged from the bet365 Feilden Stakes in the last decade and the race tends to work out strongly.

There are few opportunities for juveniles to run over further than a mile in Pattern contests and this 1m1f trip is an unknown for all six three-year-olds.

Eydon and Dawn Of Liberation are the only contenders with the benefit of a run behind them this year and the latter is more interesting on all-known evidence.

Dawn Of Liberation built on his two-year-old form to run out a three-length winner of a Doncaster novice last month and his pedigree entices as a half-brother to the yard's Group 1 winner Toormore and Group 2 scorer Estidhkaar.

An official rating of 92 means he has plenty to find with market leaders Masekela (107) and Cresta (104), but a career-best effort should be forthcoming as he shapes as if this trip will suit. He might be the one.

Masekela is out of a mare by top jumps sire Doyen and should also relish an extra furlong, while Cresta's second in the Horris Hill Stakes was franked by Tacarib Bay running well in the European Free Handicap on Tuesday.

Sonny Liston's Racing Post Rating of 92 at Sandown was impressive for a two-year-old debutant, and odds of 18-1 suggest he wasn't fancied, so significant improvement is anticipated.

The form hasn't worked out brilliantly and it is a concern he missed the remainder of the season after debuting in July, but this half-brother to top racemare Dame Malliot is a bright prospect.

Classic clues aplenty

Future Derby and Prix de l'Arc Triomphe winner Golden Horn won this in 2015 and hope springs eternal among the connections of the colts assembled for the race seven years on.

Three of the six runners have entries in the Qipco 2,000 Guineas, four are in the Cazoo Derby and five in the Al Basti Equiworld Dante Stakes.

Entered in all three is Masekela, who is closest to an actual Pattern winner among these. He came within a short head of landing the Group 2 Superlative Stakes on the July course here last summer, running on strongly and just failing to catch Native Trail, who went on to success in the National Stakes and Dewhurst and was crowned champion two-year-old.

Masekela scored at Listed level at Newbury next time and finished fourth in the Royal Lodge on this course on his final appearance.

Trainer Andrew Balding, whose father Ian had Border Arrow placed in the Guineas and the Derby after winning this in 1998, clearly believes the three-year-old has a future at the highest level.

What they say

Martyn Meade, trainer of Cresta
He's in great form, the trip will be good for him and the ground should be okay. If he sees out the trip, I suppose the Prix du Jockey Club would be our focus for him.

Richard Hannon, trainer of Dawn Of Liberation
He's done very well over the winter, I think the trip will suit him and he's a nice horse. This will tell us a lot about his plan for the rest of the season.

Roger Varian, trainer of Eydon
He ran really well on debut, but I don't think he quite backed it up last time, which was probably trainer error. He's working really well at the moment.

Charlie Hills, trainer of Sonny Liston
We've been really pleased with his work this spring, he doesn't overdo himself at home and it will be interesting to see how he gets on stepped up in class. It was a nice surprise when he won first time and he had a couple of niggly problems after that. We hope we can go down the route of the Dante and the Derby, but it's early days.
