Opposites attract. They shouldn't, and it sometimes makes little sense, but they do, and the first Saturday in April is one such magical merging when Classic clues and a stamina-sapping Scottish National combine seamlessly for an unmissable day of sport.

Imagine ten minutes after the field of 24 set off for the Coral-sponsored showpiece at Ayr, you might get a glimpse of the Derby winner in the Ballysax (3.45) at Leopardstown.

Not since Harzand in 2016 has that actually happened, but last year's winner Bolshoi Ballet was sent off 11-8 favourite for Epsom, while Galileo and High Chaparral both began their Classic campaigns by winning a Ballysax.
