Connor Beasley bids to add to his haul on seven-race card at Jebel Ali
This winter has already proved highly successful for Connor Beasley, and the jockey will attempt to secure more UAE success at Jebel Ali on Friday.
Following on from 11 winners last winter, Beasley has already doubled that tally with 22 victories, but suffered disappointment when long odds-on favourite Walking Thunder could finish only second in Thursday's UAE 2,000 Guineas at Meydan.
Employed as first jockey to Walking Thunder's trainer Ahmad Bin Harmash having initially been second rider behind Colm O'Donoghue, Beasley leads the way at Jebel Ali this season with six winners and has five chances on Friday to add to his tally.
Rua Augusta, a winner at Meydan two starts ago under Harry Bentley, appears Beasley's best chance of a winner, and the jockey said: "We've been having a great season. The horses have been running well throughout the campaign and I am really enjoying it.
"Ahmad and his staff are great people to work with and it is a real team effort. I have five rides but only two for the boss – they probably have each-way chances."
Beasley is not the only jockey riding on the card whose name will be familiar to British and Irish fans, with Jim Crowley, Ben Curtis, Royston Ffrench, Richard Mullen and Tadhg O'Shea also in action.
Mullen and O'Shea are battling at the top of the UAE leaderboard in the overall jockeys' standings, with Mullen leading the way by two on 29 after Meydan's meeting on Thursday.
A pair of conditions races are the features on the seven-race card, with Mullen aboard veteran ten-year-old Surfer for Satish Seemar in the 7f race (11.30).
The pair have combined for five victories, with their last success coming in the Group 2 Al Maktoum Challenge (Round One) at Meydan in 2015.
Jebel Ali: a guide
A right-handed dirt course of almost 11 furlongs, the track has a steep Towcester-like climb to the line.
The surface is quite oily and not like traditional dirt, and is certainly different to Meydan. There is also a seven furlong straight course. Understandably, given all of that, it is something of a specialists' venue so don't assume form will translate from other courses. The track can, however, suit turf horses.
Connor Beasley, enjoying a fine season across the UAE, is leading jockey at Jebel Ali this season with six winners. Richard Mullen, Royston Ffrench, Antonio Fresu and Fernando Jara are on five.
Sandeep Jadhav is leading trainer – he's sent out eight winners from Fazza Racing Stables. Satish Seemar is next best with seven, and Ahmad Bin Harmash and Ali Al Rayhi have had six winners each.
Pat Dobbs and Doug Watson, such a strong jockey/trainer combination at Meydan, have somewhat surprisingly had just the three winners each at Jebel Ali this term.
