There will be thousands of people at Chester on Sunday, and there are thousands – 150 to be exact – of pounds in prize-money on offer too, ensuring a good-quality card. Here, David Baxter picks out some horses and races to note...

Dragons Tail 2.35

At Ascot, Rufus King defeated Dragons Tail by a length and three-quarters, and the pair renew rivalry in the conditions race. Although Tom Dascombe's runner was in receipt of more weight that day, the all-important Chester draw could be key here.

While Rufus King has the widest berth in stall six, Dragons Tail has the rail draw in stall one.

The son of Dragon Pulse certainly has the speed for the Roodee, having blasted home from stall two when winning a maiden here at the May meeting, while Rufus King could be in for a quick turnaround after running at Goodwood on Friday.

Trainer Tom Dascombe said: "I think he's got a very good chance and the one I think he has to beat is Haddaf."

Nadaitak 3.10

When Richard Kingscote is called upon to ride for Sir Michael Stoute, a good result is usually on the cards.

This season the jockey has a 33 per cent strike-rate for the trainer (two from six) and for the last five seasons he has a 24 per cent strike-rate (five from 21).

The pair team up with Nadaitak, who is yet to finish out of the first three in four career starts, including a victory at Carlisle two runs ago.

Kingscote said: "I've been lucky enough to do well for Sir Michael when riding for him and fingers crossed this could be another one."

Dascombe's nursery blitz (4.50)

Fields dominated by Willie Mullins or Gordon Elliott-trained runners are not unusual in Ireland during the winter, and Tom Dascombe has adopted a blanket approach for the nursery, training six of the 11-strong field.

His team have fared well with the draw, occupying four of the first five stalls, and the trainer said: "The owners all want to run so that's why we've got six. We decided on jockeys before the draw and it'll be a busy day."
