Welsh National lost but still lots to relish as festive feast continues

The Boxing Day action was sensational with Might Bite and Footpad taking centre stage but the good racing keeps coming thick and fast this festive period and Champion Chase second favourite Min and Supreme Novices' favourite Mengli Khan are in action at Leopardstown.

It is not all good news, with Chepstow's Welsh National card having failed an inspection this morning but there is still live action on ITV4 from Kempton, where Politologue is a short-priced favourite for the Grade 2 Unibet Desert Orchid Chase.

Might Bite has a tremendous amount of ability. He was galloping all over them a long way out and was only just doing enough up the straight. His jump at the last betrayed just how much he had left in the tank.

Whether he stays straight up the run-in come the Gold Cup is still open for debate and in beating Double Shuffle by two lengths he did not do enough to scare off anyone. It should be a cracker and after such a bold show on Boxing Day Thistlecrack is back in contention for the race he was favourite for this time last year.
