It’s a fantastic card at Aintree for day one of the Grand National meeting, and all of us at Grange Hill Farm are full of hope Bristol De Mai can play a starring role.

He runs in the Betway Bowl Chase (2.50), in which he finished second to Might Bite 12 months ago. Since then he has won a second Betfair Chase at Haydock, and last time out finished an honourable third in the Gold Cup. For a few fleeting seconds I genuinely thought he was going to win at Cheltenham, but he just flattened out a bit up the hill.

Head lad Sparky (Richard Bevis) has been very happy with him since then and I’ll be cheering him on from the weighing room.
