Betting news, going updates and non-runners on 2,000 Guineas day
Coolmore, Aidan O'Brien, a son of Galileo and a cool name in an important race; what's not to like?
Some say Churchill's price is off-putting for today's Qipco 2,000 Guineas at Newmarket, but 11-8 could seem generous come 3.40pm.
Successful in his last five starts, Churchill ended 2016 as Europe's best two-year-old and has had this date in his diary ever since. Victory would give O'Brien a record eighth in the race, although he won't have forgotten the well-fancied Air Force Blue flopping at Newmarket 12 months ago.
That may be one reason to desert Churchill, another is the trials we've seen this spring.
Eminent looked classy in the Craven, Barney Roy romped home in the Greenham, while Al Wukair wowed in the Prix Djebel.
They all have that match-fit edge over Churchill, although he looks the type to never surrender.
While the 2,000 Guineas is undoubtedly the day's main course, Newmarket also serves up some tasty treats in the shape of the Dunaden Jockey Club Stakes and the Longholes Palace House Stakes, while if you've room for more the Kentucky Derby – North America's most important race – is due off at 11.46pm UK time.
