A year after Freewheelin Dylan provided a happy 150-1 antidote to the grip that the sport's most powerful forces had established on the Irish Grand National, the 150th running of the Fairyhouse showpiece is again defined by realms of bantam versus behemoth potential.

The longest-priced winner in the history of the race, that shock 2021 triumph for Dermot McLoughlin and Ricky Doyle was one for the grassroots of the sport, coming chiefly at the expense of Gordon Elliott's Run Wild Fred in the colours of Michael O’Leary’s Gigginstown firm.

This time the in-form McLoughlin is looking to enhance that romantic legacy with Lord Lariat. Once again he will be surrounded by small armies sporting familiar insignias.
