A great Scottish showdown - and betting shop punters can get involved at last

Scotland expects. And so do betting shop punters in England and Wales, who finally have something to get their teeth into.

They were locked out for more than three months as high street bookmakers were deemed 'non-essential' shops – which many might have thought a debatable definition while the Cheltenham Festival and Grand National were taking place.

The action since the doors reopened on Monday has been more cerebral than visceral, scarcely the stuff to get the punting juices flowing. But that changes today with the belated Coral Scottish Grand National, the race that everyone will be desperately trying to crack on one of their two permitted visits of up to 15 minutes.
