Appleby hoping to land Big gamble in Rosebery

Mick Appleby: strong fancy in Big Country
Mick Appleby: strong fancy in Big Country

3.15 KemptonBetfred 'Home Of Goals Galore' Rosebery Handicap | 1m3f | 4yo+ l ITV4/RUK

Mick Appleby and Silvestre de Sousa are on the trail of their biggest win since their recent link-up with Big Country, who has been the subject of major ante-post support in recent days for this £45,000 contest.

The ex-Irish-trained four-year-old scored in emphatic style on his first start out of Appleby's new base in Rutland when landing a maiden at Wolverhampton in February.

The son of High Chaparral was raised 9lb for that effort and just squeezes into this race off 8st 6lb.

At the other end of the handicap is Prince Of Arran, trained by Charlie Fellowes, who will qualify for Good Friday finals day at Lingfield after this third run of the winter.

The last horse to win this from a stalls position higher than eight was Cosmic Sun in 2011.

Barsanti (7-2) ended a bad run for favourites in this when scoring a year ago.

What they say

Charlie Fellowes, trainer of Prince Of Arran
He has a lot of weight but has a good draw and we're using this as a prep for the marathon on Good Friday as his future lies over two miles. They've backed Big Country off the boards and there could be few unexposed ones in there.

Marco Botti, trainer of Wild Hacked
He improved with his racing last year and should go well from a decent draw. He has good form on the all-weather and has been working well on it of late.

Rune Haugen, trainer of Diana Lady
She was a top-class filly in Chile before she joined us, but these South American horses take time to acclimatise. She didn't act on the turf when we ran her on it in Norway and we're hoping this is better for her.

Sylvester Kirk, trainer of Gawdawpalin
He ran well the other day but it depends if this race comes too soon. We could have done with a better draw, but it's good prize-money so we'll give it a go.

Alan King, trainer of William Hunter
He did us proud last summer and went from strength to strength, winning three races and finishing fourth in the November Handicap at Doncaster. He's been off since so will come on for this comeback after his winter break, but it looks a good place to start before we look to the turf season.

Richard Hughes, trainer of Getback In Paris
He ran a nice race last time and has a good draw. He doesn't look as well treated as Big Country but we'll give it a go.

Archie Watson, trainer of General Hazard
He's on a roll and won despite the race not panning out in his favour at Chelmsford last time. It was always the plan to run in this after that and hopefully he can overcome his wide draw.

Seamus Mullins, trainer of Fergall
He's not a winter horse over hurdles so we've had this on our radar for a while. We quietly fancy him.

Mick Appleby, trainer of Big Country
He's a nice horse who we got from Newmarket horses-in-training sales and he won well at Wolverhampton first time for us. We fancy him, but one concern would be if he's ready for a race of this type at this stage of his career.
