Charlie Appleby insists there are 'no negatives' for Summer Romance as the 1,000 Guineas ante-post favourite looks to maintain her unbeaten record in a hot opener at Ascot.

The daughter of Kingman is a general 10-1 chance for the fillies' Classic following her impressive six-length romp in the Listed Empress Stakes at Newmarket last month, and she attempts to emulate Russian Rhythm, who won the 2002 Princess Margaret and then went on to land the 1,000 Guineas the following season.

Appleby said: “Summer Romance has progressed with each of her runs and was very impressive on her last start. She is versatile about the ground, the trip of six furlongs is ideal for her at the moment and stall seven looks good – there are no negatives going into the race. Summer Romance is an exciting filly for Godolphin going forward.”

Meehan confident in Albany third Aroha

There can not be many better maidens than the Brian Meehan-trained Aroha who put in a huge run to finish third in the Albany Stakes at Royal Ascot.

She was sent off at 100-1 that day, but was only two and a half lengths behind the talented Daahyeh and her trainer is confident she can get off the mark on the fifth attempt.

Meehan said: "I think she has got a great chance, she is one of the form fillies in the race and she has had a nice break since Ascot. She is fresh and well, and her work has been good. The form of the Albany has worked out well so I am happy and very confident in her."

What they say

Richard Hannon, trainer of Dark Lady
She won really well last time and we're hoping for a big run here. The form of the Newbury race [when second to So Sharp] is extremely hot, I hope she is a good filly but she will need to be to place.

Richard Fahey, trainer of Flaming Princess
She's very tough and genuine and ran well in the Queen Mary. I get the feeling she'll need a bit more here, but if she gets a place I'll be delighted.

David Evans, trainer of Good Vibes
We didn't really have many options with her, I thought about going to the Molecomb with her but I didn't really fancy Goodwood. I don't think the six will be a problem looking at the way she stayed on at York, it will give her time to find her feet and hopefully she can finish well.

James Tate, trainer of Under The Stars
She was very good first time and it was a good contest. This is a big step up, and it looks a strong race, but I'm looking forward to finding out if this is the level she is likely to be running at.
