Ground now good to firm in places at Epsom
The two-day Investec Derby festival begins with a fantastic and largely wide-open card, headlined by the third British Classic of the season, the Investec Oaks (4.30).
Robert Havlin has arguably the biggest ride of his career on Mehdaayih, with Pink Dogwood, Anapurna and Maqsad leading the long list of dangers.
There is also Group 1 action in the Investec Coronation Cup (3.10), in which Kew Gardens will look to bounce back from his Chester defeat.
There is plenty of racing away from Epsom, including five evening meetings at Down Royal, Tramore, Stratford, Doncaster and Chelmsford. Carlisle and Wolverhampton complete the afternoon fixture list.

Final thought
The Oaks often suffers slightly from the significant attention placed on the Derby, but it is usually a terrific race in its own right and this year looks no different, with the key contenders spread around several yards.
