The lowdown on an intriguing day as Arc hopes top bill at Deauville
Unless it is Royal Ascot there are not many Tuesdays when the racing is good enough to draw the champion racehorse of Europe into action. Today is an exception.
Almanzor, the brilliant winner of the Prix du Jockey Club, Irish Champion Stakes and Champion Stakes, has not been sighted since he beat Arc winner found at Ascot last October.
He returns to the fray in Deauville's Group 3 Prix Gontaut-Biron ready to finally gets his 2017 campaign under way. He is not the only star on show in France as stablemate Brametot, this year's Prix du Jockey Club winner, tackles the Prix Guillaume d'Ornano, which also features Eminent.
The domestic offering is not too shabby either with Chelmsford staging two £50,000 handicaps on its evening card. That follows afternoon racing at Thirsk and Ffos Las while Nottingham hosts the other late fixture.
