A champion clash to truly savour as Irish racing opens its doors a little wider
The longer the wait, the sweeter the kiss. It may not be the same unrestricted return to normality that British tracks have been experiencing for some weeks, but two days of glorious action offer a real chance to breathe life into Ireland's racecourses. Longines Irish Champions Weekend will see 4,000 spectators descend on sold-out Leopardstown and Curragh venues.
Not since 12,270 followers flocked to Leopardstown for day two of the Dublin Racing Festival in February 2020 has an Irish course hosted such a crowd for top-level racing and the spectators' return is not coming a moment too soon.
In the strange and unpredictable 18-month period since the pandemic took hold, most Irish racing fans have been forced to watch from afar. missing out on a host of memorable performances under both codes.
