4.30 Carlisle
British Stallion Studs EBF Eternal Stakes (Listed) | 7f, 3yo fillies | RTV

Why is it interesting?

The Irish have found Carlisle a happy hunting ground in recent years and have two leading contenders in a bid to win the feature for the second time in three years.

Top rated on the figures is the well-bred Viadera, who reverted to handicap company last time to score tidily at the Curragh.

Khalid Abdullah's filly is trained by Ger Lyons and is bred to stay well as she is out of middle distance performer Sacred Shield.

The daughter of Bated Breath already has some black type as she finished second to Marie's Diamond in the Group 2 Anglesey Stakes at the Curragh last summer but has failed to match that since.

Cava, trained by Joseph O'Brien, also makes the trip and has already been on one black type mission to Britain this month having finished fourth in a Listed contest at Musselburgh last time.
Owner-breeders Cheveley Park Stud enjoyed a 1-2 in this last year with Dance Diva and Clubbable and this time rely on the David O'Meara-trained Astrologer, who has looked worth a crack at this level after victories at Beverley and Haydock.

The Mick Channon-trained Modern Millie is one of the first horses to reappear after running at Royal Ascot last week. She finished 12th in the Sandringham just five days ago in which she met trouble in running.

What do the stats say?

Favourites have failed to score in four of the past five years. Evita Peron was the last successful market leader when joint-favourite in 2014.

Just one of the last ten winners has been drawn higher than stall seven.

Summer Daydream is the only runner to carry a penalty on account of her win in the Listed Redcar Two-Year-old Trophy last year and only two penalised runners have won this in the past decade.

What do connections say?

Chris Richardson, racing manager to Cheveley Park Stud, owners of Astrologer
John Gosden trained her last year and felt there was more to come from her so we moved her to David O'Meara with his blessing. She's done well so far and hopefully this will tell us a bit more about her. It's important in the stud game to get some black type into these fillies and we hope she can do just that.

Richard Hannon, trainer of Come On Leicester
She's a nice type who should handle the track and we're hoping to grab some black type for her owners who are having a good run.

David Egan, jockey of Impulsion
She was Mr Varian's first two-year-old winner of last year when I rode her. She's run well since but has a bit to find on ratings and hopefully the first-time cheekpieces will help her. There's some nice fillies in there, but she can handle some ease in the ground if it goes that way.

David Redvers, racing manager to Qatar Racing, owners of Neon Sea
She's a filly we like and the decision was taken a couple of weeks ago to miss Royal Ascot and wait for this. She's going in the right direction and Sir Michael Stoute has been happy with her at home.
