Qipco 2,000 Guineas winner Poetic Flare will head a maximum field of 12 in what could be a superb running of the Emirates Poule d'Essai des Poulains (2.50) at Longchamp on Sunday.

Poetic Flare caused a 16-1 shock at Newmarket and will bid to give trainer Jim Bolger a first success in the race also known as the French 2,000 Guineas.

Aidan O'Brien has landed the race on four occasions and this year saddles Dewhurst winner St Mark's Basilica, who arrives fresh after connections missed Newmarket in favour of this assignment. Ioritz Mendizabal has been booked to ride.

The overseas challenge is completed by the Archie Watson-trained Mehmento, who finished a neck second to Chindit in last month's Greenham Stakes at Newbury.

Sealiway looks the the biggest danger of the French-trained contingent based on his win in the Group 1 Prix Jean-Luc Lagardere last season.

Coral make Poetic Flare the 2-1 favourite to win at Longchamp, ahead of St Mark's Basilica at 5-2 and Sealiway at 6-1.

Mother Earth got the better of Saffron Beach in the 1,000 Guineas 13 days ago and goes in search of more riches in the Emirates Poule d'Essai des Pouliches (3.25).

The daughter of Zoffany – who will be ridden by Christophe Soumillon – is Coral's 5-2 favourite for the French 1,000 Guineas, with the Ken Condon-trained Miss Amulet rated a 9-1 chance.

Last season's Prix Marcel Boussac winner Tiger Tanaka has not fired in two starts this campaign while Andre Fabre saddles the unexposed and unbeaten Philomene for Godolphin.

Coral's David Stevens, said: "Following their victories at Newmarket earlier this month, both Poetic Flare and Mother Earth are favoured to double their Classic score at in their respective races at Longchamp this weekend."
