Henry Candy has ruled out running Saturday's impressive July Cup winner Limato in the £1 million Qatar Sussex Stakes at Goodwood on July 27, for which he was as short as 5-1 third favourite with Ladbrokes.

Plans are fluid for the four-year-old, who beat Suedois by two lengths at Newmarket despite veering sharply right in the closing stages, but Candy believes the Goodwood race, in which Limato would have been trying a mile for only the second time, is going to come too soon.

Candy said yesterday: "He’s fine, but he’s tired. It was quite a day out for him and he’ll take a while to get over it. Racing possibly doesn’t take quite so much out of him now that he’s a year older, but he’s definitely one who could do with three or four weeks between races.
