PJA praises Kempton team for medical response
Professional Jockeys Association chief executive Paul Struthers has paid tribute to the emergency care Freddy Tylicki received after his fall at Kempton.
The jockey was airlifted to hospital with suspected spinal injuries after being involved in a horrific four-horse pile-up on Monday, his initial treatment coming from the first-responder team on course.
"We'd like to go on record to thank the team at Kempton – the medical officers, paramedic team and clerk of the course Barney Clifford," said Struthers. "It was yet another example of the amazing first-responder care jockeys have at the racecourse."
Tylicki is reported to be in a stable condition in intensive care in the spinal unit at St George's Hospital in Tooting, London.
Struthers added: "Like everyone else we're awaiting updates, and Freddy and his family remain in our thoughts."
The Injured Jockeys Fund issued a statement from its president Sir Anthony McCoy on Facebook, in which he said: "I'm sure every racing enthusiast will want to join me in wishing Freddy Tylicki a speedy recovery after the shocking accident at Kempton.
"The other jockeys involved, Jim Crowley, Steve Drowne and Ted Durcan, were incredibly lucky to have escaped without serious injury and we are all thinking of Freddy. Our thoughts are with him, his sister Madeleine and mother Irene, who have expressed their enormous gratitude for all the good wishes and support they have received."
