Paul Nicholls: Getaway Trump has got every chance in Betfair Hurdle
Ten-time champion trainer Paul Nicholls insists Getaway Trump has all the right credentials for Saturday's Betfair Hurdle at Newbury as he eyes a second strike in the race.
Novices have a fine recent record in Britain's richest handicap hurdle and Getaway Trump, who runs in the colours of Owners Group 023, fits that profile.
He has won two of his four starts over hurdles, most recently finishing second in the Grade 1 Challow at Newbury in December.
A lightly raced six-year-old, Getaway Trump is 9-2 second favourite with Betfair Sportsbook, who make the Nigel Twiston-Davies-trained Al Dancer their 4-1 market leader. The Nicholls-trained Mont Des Avaloirs is a 14-1 shot.
Fantastic record
Seven of the last nine Betfair Hurdle winners have been novices (in bold)
2010 Get Me Out Of Here
2011 Recession Proof
2012 Zarkandar
2013 My Tent Or Yours
2014 Splash Of Ginge
2015 Violet Dancer
2016 Agrapart
2017 Ballyandy
2018 Kalashnikov
Nicholls landed the race with Zarkandar in 2012 and outlined his hopes for Getaway Trump when he entertained the media at his Ditcheat yard on Tuesday.
He said: "He's second favourite and I'd like to think he's got every chance, he's the same sort of horse as Movewiththetimes, who was second two years ago.
"I always had in my mind that if he went well in the Challow it would be a good race to go for as novices have a good record in these type of races.
"We're hoping there's some improvement in him and he worked very well with Politologue on Saturday so he's shown his wellbeing. He jumped well this morning and he's ready to go."
Getaway Trump can be backed at 16-1 for the Sky Bet Supreme Novices' Hurdle at the Cheltenham Festival and is 20-1 for the Ballymore Novices' Hurdle at the meeting.
