Patrick breaks collarbone but Scudamore escapes 'just battered and bruised'

Tom Scudamore gave up three rides at Cheltenham on Sunday but escaped serious injury after being unseated from King's Socks three fences from home in Saturday's dramatic BetVictor Gold Cup at the same course.

Only six of the 18 runners completed the race but, although all horses rose to their feet, Scudamore and Richard Patrick were sent to hospital for assessment.

"I'm just battered and bruised and will probably take a couple days off, but it will be very short term," said Scudamore. "King's Socks was running a nice race at the time and, while he was maybe getting a little tired, I felt he would have been involved. But it wasn't to be."

Agent Dave Roberts confirmed Patrick would be out for two weeks after breaking a collarbone.

The conditional jockey was riding Happy Diva for boss Kerry Lee, one of two partnerships to be brought down by the fall of Willie Boy four out, an incident that also put the well-backed Rather Be out of the race.

Trainer Charlie Longsdon posted a Twitter image of Willie Boy with bandaging around his head on Saturday evening but by Sunday morning the seven-year-old was pictured out in the field and reported to be "a little sore but none the worse for his fall".
