Parkinson takes over as general manager at Exeter

There will be a new general manager at Exeter when the track opens its doors for the season after Jockey Club Racecourses announced Jack Parkinson will take up the position from next month.

Parkinson, 33, started out for the group at Kempton in 2011 before becoming hospitality sales manager for its London region and will succeed Dan Thompson, who is moving on to another role in racing after two years at the helm.

Parkinson will report to the JCR's south-west regional director Ian Renton, who said: "Jack has demonstrated a huge enthusiasm for his work and the sport during his first six years at the Jockey Club and his commercial skills will be a great asset to Exeter.

"I'm excited to be welcoming Jack into the south-west team where he'll be able to ensure Exeter builds on the successes of the last few years under Dan, who we all wish well for the future."

Exeter chairman Duncan Sykes added: "While I'm sure his colleagues in the London region will be sorry to see Jack go, we're very lucky to have him and I look forward to working with him to ensure the course continues to go from strength to strength."

With the track's new season starting on October 12 and its flagship race, the Grade 2 Haldon Gold Cup, staged the following month, Parkinson will be aiming to hit the ground running.
