Hugo Palmer is looking forward to saddling his first runner in the famous red, white and blue of the Cheveley Park Stud in the coming weeks after recently being added to the roster of the prolific Newmarket owner-breeder.

Both Palmer and Henry Candy have been sent juveniles purchased by the operation at the Tattersalls Guineas breeze-up sales primarily to run this year, and three have made their way to Palmer's Kremlin Cottage Stables in Newmarket.

That marks something of a departure for Cheveley Park, which had a stellar campaign last year culminating in the success of Queen's Trust at the Breeders' Cup. It usually sells many of its own colts as yearlings and races its fillies.

Palmer said: "It's very kind of [Cheveley Park Stud owners] Mr and Mrs Thompson to send us three nice colts and hopefully we can have some success with them in the coming weeks. It's like going full circle for me as the first job I had when leaving school was looking after the mares and foals at Cheveley Park Stud."

Palmer has received three colts, the most forward of which looks to be Gratified, a son of Society Rock who cost just 27,000gns and was ridden in his breeze by Jack Mitchell back in May.

Mitchell, who rides work for Palmer, was reunited with the youngster on the gallops on Tuesday morning and the pairing again gelled well together.

Palmer added: "Jack Mitchell was keen on Gratified when he rode him in his breeze and he went nicely this morning. The other two we have are Bowler Hat, who is by Helmet, and a Zebedee colt named Conversant."
