Pain in victory: Katie Scott dislocates shoulder after saddling winner

Joy quickly turned to pain for Katie Scott at Newcastle on Friday night as the Galasheils trainer dislocated her right shoulder amid celebrating a winner.

Scott was elated after Rockley Point registered his third victory in his last five starts in the penultimate race but her emotions were soon to change.

"When I went to catch him he threw his head up and knocked my shoulder out," she said on Saturday morning.

"I was in a lot of pain until it was put back in and the on-course medical staff looked after me very well. It's not a very glamorous job sometimes – and it's my gin drinking arm!"

Scott, who trains a dozen horses, has been meaning to get an old riding injury on the same shoulder fixed but has struggled to fit it into her busy schedule.

"It's a bit sore but I've managed to ride this morning," she said. "My shoulder is knackered and it needs operating on, but it's hard to find the time to get it done.

"The surgeon said I wouldn't be on a horse for six months and it's difficult to try to navigate that in this job."

The incident has not decreased Scott's affection for The Vintage Flyers-owned Rockley Point, who has provided the dual-purpose trainer with all three of her victories on the Flat.

"I love him – he's amazing," she said. "Last night was a bit of a surprise as we thought he might need the run. He won like he could go in again."
