Owner of Hennessy winner Chatam dies at age of 70

Adrian Nolan, best known as owner of Hennessy Cognac Gold Cup winner Chatam, has died at the age of 70.

Chatam carried Nolan’s blue and green colours with distinction over hurdles and fences. Trained by Martin Pipe, he ran at the Cheltenham Festival eight times between 1988 and 1996, winning the Cathcart Chase in 1991. Later that year he landed his biggest success with a four-length victory over subsequent Grand National winner Party Politics in the Hennessy at Newbury.

Nolan was part of the elite club to enjoy success at both the Cheltenham Festival and Royal Ascot. Thirteen years after Chatam’s Cathcart win, the Jeremy Noseda-trained Blue Dakota completed the notable double for Nolan with victory in the 2004 Norfolk Stakes.
