'Our horses are flying' - the four most revealing trainer quotes for Wednesday

The second day of the Punchestown festival features three Grade 1s, headlined by the Ladbrokes Punchestown Gold Cup, and is supported by a highly informative Flat card with two Group contests at Ascot. We highlight the most revealing quotes from connections.

Wednesday's racecards| Big-race tips

Longines Sagaro Stakes (Group 3), 2m

Tony Mullins, trainer of Princess Zoe

"She needs to have a run before the Gold Cup at Ascot – we have been training her solely with that race in mind. There are some talented horses in the line-up but I'm delighted with the field and that we don't have to take on Trueshan."

Forecast SP: 3-1

Irish Mirror Novice Hurdle (Grade 1), 3m

Patrick Mullins, rider of Minella Cocooner:

"Perhaps Minella Cocooner might be better at Punchestown. There's a smaller field here and this track would suit front runners far more than the new course at Cheltenham. It will be interesting to see if the Cheltenham placings are confirmed. I'm not certain they will."

Forecast SP: 3-1

Ladbrokes Punchestown Gold Cup (Grade 1), 3m

Paul Nicholls, trainer of Clan Des Obeaux:

"Our horses are flying at the moment with 12 winners last week and, provided Clan didn't have too hard a race at Aintree, he should be up to the challenge. I couldn't be happier with Clan who bounced back to form at Aintree wearing blinkers for the first time."

Forecast SP: 5-1

Race & Stay At Punchestown Champion I.N.H. Flat Race (Grade 1), 2m½f

Gordon Elliott, trainer of American Mike:

"It obviously got very heavy at Cheltenham but he still ran a big race and was beaten by a very good horse. I'd say they are two top-class horses with big futures ahead and it will be interesting to see what happens this time. My horse has come out of Cheltenham in great shape and he should give another really good account of himself."

Forecast SP: 10-3
