Options remain open for Enable with no decision on star mare's future

The wait goes on to learn what the future holds for Enable as connections of the star mare have yet to decide whether she will be retired.

Enable was narrowly denied in her bid for an unprecedented third victory in the Prix de l'Arc de Triomphe at Longchamp on October 6, finishing a length and three-quarters behind Waldgeist.

Speaking after the race, Khalid Abdullah's racing manager Teddy Grimthorpe said the decision would be entirely up to the owner and that making these choices was one of the best things about ownership.

More than a week later it remains to be seen if Abdullah will keep the ten-time Group 1 winner in training, with a number of options still on the table for the five-year-old.

Retiring to stud

Enable has been a consistent performer for her connections since making her debut in November 2016 and has already confirmed her place in racing history as only the eighth horse to win two Arcs.

After amassing more than £10 million in prize-money in 15 starts, Abdullah could call time on Enable's career and she would become an exciting addition to Juddmonte's broodmare band.

Should Enable be retired to Abdullah's breeding operation, the next question would be which stallion she would visit for her maiden cover, with Kingman and Dubawi possible options.

Stateside swansong

Enable's winning streak came to an end at Longchamp and connections could attempt to go out on a winning note.

If she is kept in training with John Gosden, Enable could feasibly return to the US and bid to become just the third dual winner of the Grade 1 Breeders' Cup Turf at Santa Anita on November 2.

She proved her international dominance with victory over Magical in the race at Churchill Downs last year, but her participation would depend on how she came out of a testing race at Longchamp.

Another year in training

Enable is loved by the racing public and, provided she is fit and well, her owner may wish to see her race as a six-year-old.

Enable achieved her highest Racing Post Rating of 129 when winning her first Arc at Chantilly and this season showed she had lost none of her ability with a rating of 128 after winning the Yorkshire Oaks.

She could have a similar campaign next season, with repeat bids in the Coral-Eclipse, King George and Yorkshire Oaks, as well as a fourth Arc attempt, all feasible targets.
