One trainer, one jockey, one horse and one race to watch this Saturday

Trainer

It is set to be a huge day for Charlie Appleby across the globe as the Flat turf season begins in Britain at Doncaster, while the Dubai Carnival concludes with the World Cup fixture itself at Meydan.

The Godolphin trainer will saddle the leading candidates in a host of races and could land his third SBK Lincoln (3.35) in the last six years courtesy of Modern News.

However, it is at Meydan where his most lucrative victories could come, kicking off with the unbeaten Manobo in the Dubai Gold Cup (12.55), while Breeders' Cup Turf hero Yibir returns in the Sheema Classic (3.55).

Appleby is also three-handed in the Al Quoz Sprint (1.35) with the progressive Man Of Promise, Champions Sprint winner Creative Force and Naval Crown on a day where he could lay down a significant marker for the season ahead.

Jockey

With a host of Britain's leading jockeys out in the Middle East, some of the country's talented apprentices get the chance to shine on Doncaster's Lincoln card, including 17-year-old Harry Davies.

Davies partners one of Appleby's leading chances on Saturday in Modern News and the dual pony racing champion could record his seventh and biggest career success.

Should Davies steer Modern News to victory, it would be back-to-back wins for 7lb teenage claimers in the Lincoln after Haqeeqy's victory under Benoit de la Sayette last year.

Horse

Plenty of big names are in action on Meydan's card, but the star attraction is undoubtedly Life Is Good, who is a short-priced favourite to continue his rapid rise to the top in the Dubai World Cup (4.30).

The Todd Pletcher-trained four-year-old is already a Breeders' Cup Dirt Mile and Pegasus World Cup winner, having defeated the high-class Knicks Go in the latter event, and heads a formidable American challenge for the £5.3 million first prize.

US-trained runners have landed three of the last five runnings, including with greats such as Arrogate and California Chrome, and Life Is Good could be set to etch his name alongside those as well.

Race

While the classiest action comes from Dubai, domestic eyes will be fixed on the SBK Lincoln (3.35) at Doncaster as one of the most prestigious handicaps kicks off the Flat turf season in Britain.

A field of 22 will thunder down the Town Moor straight mile and the one to beat could be the unbeaten Mujtaba, who made an impressive debut in a handicap at Redcar towards the end of last season and will be ridden by Cieren Fallon after top apprentice Adam Farragher, who had been booked for the ride on the unbeaten Shadwell-owned four-year-old, was ruled out through injury on Friday.

Modern News, Saleymm, Notre Belle Bete and Darkness also hold strong chances.

As well as Mujtaba, William Haggas is represented by Ametist and Irish Admiral as the Yorkshire-born trainer aims to make history with a record-breaking fifth win in the £100,000 contest.
