Trainer

Oliver Sherwood has never made any secret of his admiration for Papagana and the seven-year-old bids for Grade 2 success in the bet365 Mares' Hurdle at Ascot (1.50).

Third in the Long Walk Hurdle last time, the daughter of Martaline has won two Listed contests and is a valuable broodmare prospect, but still has plenty to offer on the track.

It would also be a first Graded win for the Lambourn trainer since Many Clouds' brave but ultimately ill-fated success in the 2017 Cotswold Chase.

Jockey

Henry Brooke enjoyed the biggest success of his career when landing the Fighting Fifth Hurdle on Cornerstone Lad and the pair are reunited in The New One Unibet Hurdle at Haydock (3.15).

The combination face the likes of Triumph Hurdle hero Pentland Hills and the consistent Ballyandy in the Grade 2.

Brooke also partners Snookered in the Rossington Main Novices' Hurdle (2.05). Brian Ellison's gelding was clearly below par when tailed off last time but won his last four starts before that.

Horse

The exciting Edwardstone (2.05) has won his two starts over hurdles and arguably holds the strongest form on offer.

The six-year-old was a cosy winner over Fiddlerontheroof at Wincanton in November, and Colin Tizzard's runner franked the form when striking in the Tolworth Hurdle this month.

He now steps up to Grade 2 company in the Rossington Main Novices' Hurdle and will be out to cement his festival credentials for the Alan King team.

Race

The Clarence House Chase is undoubtedly the showpiece event on Saturday but Ascot's Matchbook Holloway's Handicap Hurdle (2.25) has attracted an intriguing line-up.

Last season's Supreme Novices' Hurdle runner-up Thomas Darby bids to get his career back on track after two runs over fences, while Pic D'Orhy is an unexposed sort for Paul Nicholls. Last year's winner Ballymoy also returns to hurdles after three second places over fences.
