One trainer, one jockey, one horse and one race to watch on Saturday
Trainer
Andrew Balding is ready to add to an already lucrative season with runners across the cards at Haydock, Kempton and Ascot on Saturday.
Marygate winner Nymphadora heads the charge at Kempton with a leading chance in the Group 3 Unibet 3 Uniboosts A Day Sirenia Stakes (2.05) before Fox Tal takes in the second Group 3 of the meeting in the five-horse field for the Unibet September Stakes (2.40).
Chil Chil runs in the Group 1 Betfair Sprint Cup (3.30) on a busy afternoon at Haydock, which includes first runs at the track for Bell Rock in the Betfair Double Daily Rewards Superior Mile Stakes (1.45) and Melrose winner Valley Forge in the "My Odds Boost" On Betfair Handicap (2.20).
Auriferous was a four-length second when Mojo Star broke his maiden at Newbury and now aims to go one better for Balding in the Lavazza Stakes (3.10) at Ascot, while Mystery Smiles takes on the Careys Foundation Supporting The Lighthouse Club Handicap (3.45) in the blue and white silks of King Power Racing.
Jockey
Tom Marquand's most recent Group 1 glory came on Starman in the July Cup and he will be hoping to add a first success in the Sprint Cup (3.30) to his CV on Saturday.
In addition to the Ed Walker-trained star sprinter, the 23-year-old has a strong book of rides at Haydock's meeting including in Group company with My Oberon in the Superior Mile (1.45), as well as Mountain Peak in the 5f handicap (4.05).
Marquand also has two first-time rides with the Hugo Palmer-trained Power Of Beauty in the Listed Betfair Exchange Ascendant Stakes (1.15) and Vino Victrix in the "My Odds Boost" On Betfair Handicap (2.20) for Hughie Morrison.
Horse
Last year's King George V Stakes winner Hukum has landed three of his five starts this season including two Group 3 contests on the bounce.
The four-year-old bids for the hat-trick as he lines up in the Unibet September Stakes (2.40) on the all-weather at Kempton for trainer Owen Burrows and Jim Crowley.
A ready winner of the Geoffrey Freer Stakes at Newbury in August, Hukum is well placed in this small field to win against the William Haggas-trained Hamish, who is due to make his first course appearance in over a year.
Burrows has hinted at international targets ahead for Hukum at the end of the season, with considerations for races in Hong Kong and US following his Newbury success.
Race
The Group 1 contest serves up a tantalising offering of sprinting star power at Haydock in the Betfair Sprint Cup (3.30).
Starman heads the market as Ed Walker seeks his first win in the race, with the quick conditions set to play heavily in the four-year-old's favour after his third in the Prix Maurice de Gheest on soft ground.
2021 Sprint Cup at Haydock: the runners, the odds, the verdict
Lennox runner-up Creative Force looks to give Godolphin their first success in four years, while last year's fourth Art Power looks to follow in the footsteps of stablemate Winter Power's Nunthorpe success for King Power Racing, who also field Chil Chil.
Glen Shiel, Happy Romance and Nunthorpe runner-up Emaraaty Ana also feature among the 11-horse field.
