One trainer, one jockey, one horse and one race to watch on Saturday

Trainer

Roger Teal came close to Qipco 2,000 Guineas glory in 2018 with runner-up Tip Two Win, who will make his seasonal reappearance in the Group 3 Criterion Stakes (2.40) at Newmarket.

The Dark Angel colt, who is Teal's only runner on Saturday, has disappointed since that gallant effort behind Saxon Warrior but his forecast price of 25-1 could be made to look big if he can get back to his best.

Jockey

Ben Curtis is renowned for his prowess on the all-weather and has an excellent book of rides at Newcastle on Saturday.

Royal Ascot winner Chiefofchiefs steps up in class in the Group 3 Chipchase Stakes (1.50), while Virgin Snow is by no means without a chance in the Hoppings Fillies' Stakes (3.00) either.

The jockey also gets the call up on Listed scorer Collide in the Northumberland Plate (3.35), a horse he has won on twice from as many starts.

Horse

Sovereign produced one of the biggest shocks last season when leading all the way to take the 2019 Irish Derby, beating Investec Derby winner and stablemate Anthony Van Dyck in the process.

Not seen since, the Galileo colt has been kept in training and makes his reappearance in the Vintage Group Stakes at the Curragh (7.45). Connections clearly have every faith he can build on that this season and he certainly won't be a 33-1 chance this time.

Race

The Alleged Stakes (4.45) may feature just six runners, but when they include a previous Irish Derby winner in Latrobe and the likes of Sir Dragonet, then it is clear that quality is the order of the day.

Latrobe has managed just a single win since his Classic triumph, while Sir Dragonet has not yet managed to replicate his exciting Chester Vase win from last season. Both are by Camelot, which means the trip of 1m2f is probably on the short side, although both have run respectably this term.

Add in the lightly raced Buckhurst, an exciting prospect from the Joseph O'Brien yard, Numerian and Trais Fluors and it should be a race to savour.
