One trainer, one jockey, one horse and one race to watch on Saturday

One trainer

Champion trainer Paul Nicholls is trailing old foe Nicky Henderson by just over £120,000 as he looks to defend his trainer's title, but with 12 runners on the card at Kempton he could well reduce that margin.

In the Betway Handicap Chase (3.35), worth £56,950 to the winner, he saddles four including favourite Adrien Du Pont. He is also represented by topweight Black Corton.

On a busy afternoon at the Surrey track, Nicholls also has the exciting Master Tommytucker and Southfield Stone in the Pendil Novices' Chase (1.15), Diego Du Charmil in the restaged Kingwell Hurdle (2.25) while French import Solo heads the betting in the Adonis (1.50).

One jockey

Daryl Jacob has a strong book of rides for the big spring festivals and Kildisart could emerge as a Grand National contender when he runs in the Betway Handicap Chase at Kempton (3.35).

The eight-year-old looked a top talent when winning at Aintree last April and, despite two disappointing recent runs, has to be considered here.

Jacob's mount in the Adonis (1.50), Fujimoto Flyer, is another who catches the eye. The four-year-old is two from two since joining Emmet Mullins and could emerge as a Triumph Hurdle contender.

One horse

The Betway Winter Derby Stakes (3.15) looks a cracking race, with high-class performers Bangkok and Dubai Warrior clashing in the Group 3.

Bangkok has always been held in high regard by Andrew Balding and he looked better than ever when winning emphatically in the trial for this race.

He is already a winner at this level, having won the Classic Trial at Sandown last season, but can continue to improve this season.

One race

The Vertem Eider (2.45) at Newcastle is always one of the best staying handicap chases of the season and this year's field is particularly interesting.

There are only a few of the established stayers we have seen in these sort of races with Calipso Collonges and Hugo 'N Taz tested over the stamina-sapping 4m1½f test.

With the current favourite Petite Power as big as 6-1, the race promises to be an intriguing puzzle for punters to work out.
