One trainer, one jockey, one horse and one race to watch on Saturday

Trainer

Gary Moore has been in formidable form and looks to continue his best-ever season with a handful of strong chances across the cards on Saturday.

Porticello is one of the leading British hopes for the Triumph Hurdle and seeks to follow up his December Grade 1 success as Moore's sole runner at Haydock in the William Hill Super Odds Victor Ludorum Juvenile Hurdle (1.30).

With son Josh booked for his first ride on the four-year-old, Moore sends Jamie to Wincanton on Goshen, who will attempt back-to-back victories in the Matchbook Betting Exchange Kingwell Hurdle (3.20).

Goshen recently bounced back to form with a Listed romp at Sandown and is odds-on favourite to make a winning return to Wincanton's Grade 2 after a 22-length success in 2021.

Moore also fields three at Ascot, where hurdlers Hecouldbetheone (1.15) and Imphal (4.10) bid to follow up recent success under Niall Houlihan and London Gold Cup winner Larry runs in the Listed Swinley Chase (2.25).

Jockey

Almost as busy as Gary Moore on Saturday is Aidan Coleman, who has five rides at Haydock's Grand National Trials day on Saturday.

The jockey could strike in the feature William Hill Grand National Trial Handicap Chase (2.40), where he reunites with the Anthony Honeyball-trained Sam Brown after the pair finished a close-fought second in the Peter Marsh Chase at the course in January.

Coleman also combines with former boss Venetia Williams for the first time this season with the progressive Green Book in the Albert Bartlett Prestige Novices' Hurdle (3.50). The pair will face the promising Hillcrest, who is out for redemption after Richard Patrick was unseated in the Ballymore Novices' Hurdle on Cheltenham Trials day when sent off odds-on favourite.

Thomas Darby could provide Coleman with even more Graded success on Saturday, with the Olly Murphy-trained nine-year-old heading the market for the William Hill Rendlesham Hurdle (2.05) ahead of a likely bid at the Stayers' Hurdle in March, for which he is a general 25-1 shot.

With additional rides on Tanganyika (1.30) and Tamar Bridge (3.15), Coleman could be on course for a fruitful day at the Merseyside track.

Horse

At the grand age of 13, Blaklion has been a resurgent force this season with two wins from three starts under Harry Skelton.

He most recently rampaged to a 28-length success in December to make it back-to-back wins at Haydock, with a performance that prompted trainer Dan Skelton described as "phenomenal".

Blaklion has run three times in the Grand National and could line up for a fourth tilt at the race in April. His prep comes on Saturday in the Grade 3 William Hill Grand National Trial Handicap Chase (2.40), where he faces the likes of Bristol De Mai and Secret Reprieve.

Blaklion will have his work cut out but jump racing fans love a veteran chaser and he will be sure to enjoy plenty of support on Saturday.

Race

The Grade 1 offering on Saturday's cards is set to be a fascinating running of the Betfair Ascot Chase (3.38), which has been rewarded with one of its biggest fields in recent years.

Eight are due to line up for the 2m5f test including last year's winner Dashel Drasher, who will reoppose recent Fleur De Lys Chase winner Two For Gold.

The exciting addition of an Irish raider comes from the yard of Joseph O'Brien, who fields Fakir D'Oudairies in the seven-year-old's first start in Britain since scoring at Aintree in April.

Silviniaco Conti Chase winner Mister Fisher runs for the yard of Nicky Henderson and, with an enigmatic race record, adds an intriguing mix up to this year's contest.

However, many connections of tomorrow's runners will have one eye on the Cheltenham Festival, where six of the Ascot Chase contenders hold entries to the Ryanair on March 17.
