One trainer

With 14 runners across Britain it will be an important Boxing Day for Nicky Henderson. The champion trainer has three big chances in Kempton's Grade 1 races with Santini (1.55), Buveur D'Air (2.30) and Might Bite (3.05) who aims to defend his King George prize.

Elsewhere smart prospects Mister Fisher (12.50) and Lough Derg Spirit (1.20) are on show. Away from Kempton, Henderson sends four to Wincanton and Champagne Mystery runs at Market Rasen.

One jockey

Harry Skelton has enjoyed 125 winners since April, just six wins shy of his record for the whole of last season.

He heads to Wetherby with a very good book of rides including Captain Chaos in the feature race, the Rowland Meyrick, as well as Sounds Of Italy (12.30), No Getaway (1.00), Get On The Yager (1.35) and Miss Spent (2.45) – all of whom seem to have excellent chances at the West Yorkshire track.

One horse

The two-mile novice chasing division is certainly a competitive one with Kalashnikov and Lalor both looking outstanding prospects. The leading Irish contender is Mengli Khan who takes his chance in the Racing Post Novice Chase (2.20) at Leopardstown.

The Gordon Elliott-trained five-year-old was an impressive winner on his sole chasing start, winning by ten lengths, and is a warm favourite to land this Grade 1 contest.

Two of the last three winners of this race have subsequently scored in the Racing Post Arkle at the Cheltenham Festival and it could yet again prove an informative guide when thinking ahead to the spring.

One race

There is no doubting the race of the day is a vintage renewal of the King George VI Chase. Former winners Might Bite and Thistlecrack feature alongside classy performers Bristol De Mai, Native River, Politologue and Waiting Patiently.

Even outsiders Tea For Two and Coneygree are Grade 1 winning chasers, it looks quite simply an epic contest.
