One trainer, one jockey, one horse and one race to watch on Derby day
Trainer
It is a huge day for the Andrew Balding team highlighted with leading Derby hope Bangkok in the feature race (4.30).
The Sandown Classic Trial winner looks to give the trainer a first taste of Derby glory, 48 years on from the success of Mill Reef for his father Ian.
Bangkok is one of five runners with strong chances on the card for Balding. Le Don De Vie was a neck winner at this venue in April and is favourite for the 1m2f handicap (2.00), while Bye Bye Hong Kong bids for a hat-trick in the Group 3 Diomed Stakes (3.10). Genetics (5.15) contests the 1m4f handicap and Stone Of Destiny (5.50) has each-way claims in the concluding 5f handicap.
Jockey
Ryan Moore had seven horses to choose from in the Derby, but was Sir Dragonet the right choice? Although he'd ridden Broome, Anthony Van Dyck and Japan on the racecourse, we have not seen him partner Sir Dragonet, which made his decision so interesting.
All eyes will be on the Chester Vase winner, who attempts to repay Moore's faith in him on the biggest stage in British Flat racing.
Moore has a strong book of rides on Derby day, including two leading chances in the Group 3 contests. He partners Veracious in the Princess Elizabeth Stakes (2.35) and Zaaki in the Diomed Stakes at 3.10. The two-time Derby winning rider also rides Nayef Road (2.00) and Sextant (5.15).
Horse
Most attention will be on the Derby but keep an eye out for the Epsom Dash (3.45), in which the admirable Caspian Prince seeks a fourth win in the race.
Race
The waiting for the Investec Derby is almost over. A field of 13 will head to the 1m4f start seeking to etch their name in the same calibre as some of racing's elite.
A brilliant renewal is in store and don't miss the latest running of this famous race at 4.30 on ITV or RTV.
