Oisin Murphy's two-year-old debriefs prove a big hit on social media

Jockeys are used to giving post-race debriefs to connections but on Thursday Oisin Murphy extended the privilege to his thousands of followers on social media in a video discussing rides at Newmarket.

The champion jockey offered his verdict on the six two-year-olds he rode and the tactics he employed, including aboard Bright Devil, who recorded a striking success on his debut for Andrew Balding.

Murphy has 27,000 followers on Twitter yet the video had been viewed more than 190,000 times in 15 hours after being shared and praised by a number of racing professionals and fans of the sport.

"I get people asking all the time on Twitter about horses and why I did certain things in races," said Murphy, introducing the video.

Murphy offered insight into all the juveniles he rode and he said of Bright Devil: "We were really happy with him and he's been working well. He was professional and will improve for going further."

Balding has made an excellent start to the season and Tactical finished an encouraging third in the 5f novice stakes under Murphy.

"He jumped fine but it's hard when you're stuck in behind on a horse making their first start as they don't know what to do. He's lovely, though, and will improve for going six furlongs," said the jockey.

It did not all go to plan for the jockey and he admitted the Ralph Beckett-trained Time Scale was slow off the mark in the opener.

"Time Scale missed the break fractionally and fell behind. From then on the race was over. Even if I wheeled her out into the centre of the track it wouldn't have changed the result," added Murphy.

The champion jockey offered honest appraisals of his performances too, including when discussing the James Tate-trained Risk Of Thunder, who finished seventh in a contest for maiden fillies.

"She's got a lot of pace and I possibly made a bit too much use of her," said Murphy. "She could be dropped back to five furlongs."

Murphy has a big weekend ahead of him as he will partner Kameko in the Qipco 2,000 Guineas on Saturday and the Jessica Harrington-trained Millisle in the 1,000 Guineas on the following day.
