Al Shaqab has extended their sponsorship of the Lockinge Stakes for another five years but they will no longer sponsor the entire meeting.

They had previously sponsored all of the two-day meeting in mid-May but will now only sponsor the feature mile event along with the Group 3 Al Rayyan and Haras de Bouquetot Fillies’ Trial - it means the London Gold Cup and Carnavon Stakes are without a sponsor.

Khalifa Al Attiya, General Manager for Al Shaqab, said: “The agreement to renew Al Shaqab’s sponsorship of the Group 1 Lockinge for a further five years demonstrates our commitment to British horseracing and its well-deserved standing worldwide."

Julian Thick, Chief Executive of Newbury Racecourse, said: “We have enjoyed a great partnership with Al Shaqab since they came on board to sponsor the prestigious Group 1 back in 2015 and I am delighted they have extended the relationship for a further five years."

“The Al Shaqab Lockinge Stakes is a hugely important race in the European calendar and we are delighted that, with the backing of Al Shaqab, we are now in a fortunate position to look at attracting new partners to support and grow this event further. We are hugely excited about the possibilities for this fixture in 2020 and beyond.”

Oisin Murphy cautioned as failed breath test revealed to be at 'lower level'

Oisin Murphy has escaped with a caution from the sport's disciplinary panel after giving a positive breath test for alcohol last month.

Murphy was stood down from riding for the day by the Salisbury stewards on June 16 having returned two tests that contained figures of 26 and 27 micrograms of alcohol per 100 millilitres of breath.

Since the positive fell comfortably within the "lower level" range of offence on the BHA scale, it was referred under the fast-track procedures to the panel without any formal hearing being undertaken.

The BHA’s permitted threshold for jockeys to be allowed to ride is 17 micrograms per 100 ml, lower than the limits for drivers in both Scotland – 22 micrograms – and in England and Wales, where the line is drawn at 35 micrograms.

Murphy is fighting to be crowned champion jockey and was two wins behind title rival Danny Tudhope heading into Monday's evening meeting at Ffos Las, where he is booked for six rides.

Pressroom regular Ted 'Snowy' Allen dies

Ted Allen, a former racereader and racing journalist, has died aged 88.

Allen, who was nicknamed 'Snowy' due to his long white hair, worked for the Press Association and The Sporting Life before going self-employed. He was regularly in attendance at racecourses for around 30 years before his retirement in the 1990s.

Father-of-six Allen had seven grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. He died at Barnet General Hospital on Saturday, July 20.

His son David said: "He was a loving husband to my mum, Jean, and a great father to his six children and all his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

"He loved his racing and his job. He and his colleague Iain Mackenzie would car-share to the racecourse and then had a right laugh when at the races. Everyone would know him at the course. He was a big sports fan and liked going to the betting shop – everyone knew him there, too."
