O'Brien fires three shots in bid for 18th Beresford win
Aidan O'Brien will be bidding for an unprecedented 18th win in Sunday's Group 2 Beresford Stakes – an eighth in succession – in which he saddles Japan, Mount Everest and Sovereign.
A field of seven will go to post for the mile event, including Michael O'Callaghan's course-and-distance winner Power Of Now, Jim Bolger's Guaranteed, Adrian Keatley's Mackqeez, as well as debut winner Pythion, who represents Ger Lyons.
Japan, who got the hang of things late on when winning over seven furlongs at Listowel last time, is a brother to Secret Gesture and Sir Isaac Newton.
Mount Everest beat Sovereign in a maiden at the Curragh last month, but the latter has since scored by 14 lengths at Galway.
Two Group 3s, the Loughbrown Stakes (2.55) and the Renaissance Stakes (4.00), also take place on the same card.
Dermot Weld's unbeaten Falcon Eight bids to make it a hat-trick in the Loughbrown, while Gordon Lord Byron, who faded out of a race in the Czech Republic last time, returns to Irish shores in the Renaissance Stakes.
