O'Brien dominates key Epsom prep with eight of 13 entries

Aidan O'Brien has not won the Derrinstown Derby Trial since 2013 but you will get a big price about that drought continuing as he is responsible for eight of the 13 entries for the Group 3 contest at Leopardstown on Sunday.

O'Brien has won the Derrinstown ten times since Risk Material got the ball rolling in 1998 and last season's Beresford winner Capri could lead his charge on Sunday following a satisfactory return to action in the Ballysax Stakes last month when fourth to Rekindling.

However, both Douglas Macarthur (second) and Yucatan (third), who finished ahead of Capri in the Ballysax, are also entered.

Joseph O'Brien, who spoiled his father's party in the Ballysax with Rekindling, could try to do so again with Dundalk maiden winner Druids Cross, while the only other trainers to be represented are Jim Bolger (Dubai Sand), Ger Lyons (Insayshable), Willie McCreery (Naturalist) and Michael O'Callaghan (Night Of Glory). The last-named pair are both maidens.

It is a similar story in the Group 3 Derrinstown Stud 1,000 Guineas Trial, in which O'Brien has five of the 14 possibles, although his hand does not looks as strong as it is in the Derrinstown.

Impressive Naas maiden winner Sorelle Delle Rose, from the Dermot Weld stable, looks sure to be popular in the market.

Peace Envoy got no luck in running at Naas on Monday but he could bid for compensation quickly as he is among nine entries for the Group 3 Ard Glen Construction Amethyst Stakes.

Globetrotting veteran Gordon Lord Byron is also a possible for that contest as he aims for his 16th career win at the age of nine.

Leopardstown Sunday card
